Senior SMS Medical College Professor Dies by Suicide in Jaipur

Shillong: Dr. N.L. Disania, the veteran head of the Forensic Medicine department at SMS Medical College, died by suicide at his home in the Khatipura area of Jaipur. His family returned from a wedding on Wednesday morning to find him hanging in a room. They rushed him to a private hospital, but he was dead on arrival.

Police arrived at the residence shortly after the discovery. A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory inspected the scene while investigators from the Jhotwara police station began their work. Officers kept a heavy presence at the mortuary as staff awaited the final post-mortem results. Officials said, "the circumstances surrounding the death will become clearer after recording statements from family members and receiving the post-mortem report."

Disania served the college for three decades. He was a pillar of the institution. He recently helped open a new laboratory at the hospital, an event that highlighted his long career in medical education. Colleagues and administrators gathered at the hospital to mourn the loss of a respected faculty member.

Reports suggest the professor faced mental stress linked to an old financial fraud case involving a relative. Police have not confirmed a link between those legal troubles and the death. The investigation continues as family members remain silent. Disania leaves behind his wife and three children.
