Imphal: Security forces arrested three armed cadres and seized a massive cache of weapons on Friday. Joint operations by Manipur Police and Assam Rifles targeted militant activity across Churachandpur and Bishnupur districts. Authorities apprehended Khual, 35, Money Chiru, 30, and Thanglalmuan, 25, near Munpi village. Officers recovered an HKG 3 assault rifle, an A1 rifle, an M22 rifle, and two AK-47s from the trio. They also seized seven magazines, five tactical pouches, and 298 rounds of ammunition.
A separate raid in the Thangjing Ridge area turned up even more hardware. Troops from the Churachandpur Police and the 2nd Battalion of the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry scoured the area between Nalon and Thinghijang. They pulled two 82 mm mortars, a homemade rocket, and an MP5 automatic rifle with a scope from the brush. The haul included four carbines, two pistols, eight rifles of various makes, mortar bombs, shells, radio gear, and combat boots.
Police have not named the militant group linked to the haul. Officials noted: "Further legal action in connection with the arrests and recoveries is underway."
In a related incident on the same day, Behiang Police and Assam Rifles nabbed Haukimmang, a 36-year-old Myanmar national, near Border Pillar 41. Officers found 154 grams of suspected heroin hidden in 11 soap cases on the suspect. Conflict between Meitei and Kuki groups continues to plague the state. Ethnic violence has killed 306 people since May 2023.
