Imphal: Security forces hammered militants in Manipur this week. A joint team of Manipur Police, CRPF, RAF, CoBRA, and Army units raided the Leilon Vaiphei area in Kangpokpi District. The operation started on June 20 after intel suggested armed fighters were hiding in the brush. Gunfire erupted immediately. Security forces fought back hard against the suspected militants.

The operation stretched through June 22. Troops scoured Leilon Vaiphei, Leilon Munlui, Molhoi, P. Moulding, and Leilon Khunou to drag out the hidden stash. They pulled 17 single or double-barrel guns from the earth. The haul also included 02 AK-47 rifles, 01 M4 carbine, 02 SLRs, 01 SKS rifle, 01 improvised sniper .303 rifle, and 11 SBL rifles. Soldiers confiscated crates of ammunition, radios, and assorted war-like stores.

Violence defines this region. Tensions between Kuki and Naga villages have spiked following the killing of six Naga civilians, including pastors, from Konsakhul village. The Manipur Police stated the area has "remained in a volatile situation" since those murders.

Separately, authorities cracked down on major criminal cases on June 19. Combined teams of Manipur Police, NIA, and CRPF arrested 10 suspects across Churachandpur, Imphal, and Ukhrul. These arrests target suspects linked to a bank robbery, the 5th IRB arms loot, and the ambush on the Chief Minister's convoy.
