Agartala: Tripura University Vice-Chancellor Prof Debabrata Das delivered a stern message to new students on Tuesday. He spoke at the Deeksharambh induction program held at Maharaja Bir Bikram Shatabarshiki Bhawan in Suryamaninagar. He demanded that students avoid substance abuse. He told them to treasure their time and sharpen their own skills rather than obsess over the success of their peers.
Das urged the freshers to keep a positive mindset during their university tenure. He noted the weight of the present moment, stating, "Every moment of life is important. Twenty years from now, when you look back, today’s time could become one of the beautiful chapters of your life." He reminded the room that family and friends remain vital, and that students should build a meaningful life away from intoxicants.
The Vice-Chancellor pushed the students to stop gauging their worth through social status or bank accounts. He instructed them to stop looking at others to measure their own worth. "Instead of competing with others, compete with yourself," he said. He added that complexity in the modern world demands teamwork, as no individual can solve every problem alone.
Other university leaders reinforced these points. Officiating Registrar Prof Samir Kumar Sil called for strict discipline and consistent study habits. Lt Col Rohan Gupta detailed how NCC training builds leadership and responsibility. The event included appearances by Prof Chinmoy Roy, Prof Parthasarathi Gupta, Finance Officer Debashish Pal, Prof Indranil Bhowmik, and Prof Ashesh Gupta. Dr. Sindhu Paudyal closed the session with a vote of thanks.
