Imphal: Security forces hauled in a massive stockpile of illegal weapons this week. The three-day sweep hit the hills of Kangpokpi district after tip-offs pointed to militants hiding in the area. Manipur Police, the Indian Army, the CRPF, the RAF, and CoBRA teams teamed up for the push.
Gunfire erupted early in the operation. Suspected militants opened fire on the patrol, triggering a tense standoff on June 20. Security crews pushed through the resistance to hold their ground and finish the sweep. The operation lasted through June 22 across villages like Leilon Vaiphei and Molhoi.
The final count is heavy. Teams pulled 17 shotguns and eight high-end firearms from the brush. This haul included two AK-47s, an M4 Carbine, two SLRs, an SKS rifle, and a sniper rifle. They also grabbed a pile of communication gear and loose ammunition.
Police say the mission is a win for regional stability. Officials stated the recovery is a "major success in ongoing efforts to dismantle militant networks and prevent armed activities in vulnerable areas of the state." Detectives are now digging into which groups stashed the gear. The hunt for more hidden caches continues.
