Imphal: Security forces arrested four members of the UNLF (P) group this week following operations in the Lamshang area of Imphal West. The crackdown began on Wednesday when police apprehended Heishnam Thomas Singh and Arambam Tomtom Singh, seizing an INSAS light machine gun and ammunition. Associates of the men fired on officers during the initial arrest, leading to a brief exchange of gunfire that resulted in the capture of two additional suspects, Ningthoujam Rakesh Singh and Chingakham Mahesh Singh.

Interrogations revealed the men were selling looted arms under orders from a leader identified as Naorem Bijoy. The suspects admitted to being involved in the illegal sale of stolen weapons previously. Following these arrests, a joint team consisting of Manipur Police, Assam Rifles, and CRPF personnel raided an unauthorized camp in Lamdeng.

The search operations led to the recovery of a massive collection of military-grade gear. On Wednesday, authorities secured 29 weapons, including AK-series and M-series rifles. A follow-up operation on Thursday uncovered 28 more weapons, including sniper rifles, carbines, mortars, an RPG-7 launcher, and an anti-drone jammer, along with significant quantities of explosives. Officials have requested that the public report any sightings of illegal or looted firearms to local police stations.
