Guwahati: Assam Rifles and Cachar Police shut down a major drug run on June 30. They grabbed 9.5 crore worth of narcotics near Tollengram in Cachar district. The haul included 30,000 Yaba tablets and over half a kilo of heroin.

Smugglers used a clever trick. They packed the drugs inside jars filled with red chillies to throw off the scent. It did not work. Personnel caught the stash during a targeted operation based on solid intel.

Two women from Tollen Village in Manipur now face charges. Police took them into custody at the scene. Authorities handed the pair over to the Cachar Police for a deep dive into their operation. The Assam Rifles confirmed the win, stating, "The operation marks the latest in a series of successful anti-smuggling actions by security agencies in the region."

This hit follows a busy weekend for local law enforcement. Agents pulled in 5 crore in drugs and 2.8 crore in illegal foreign cigarettes just one day prior. Security forces say they plan to keep pressing drug networks across the Northeast.
