Itanagar: Security forces and Arunachal Pradesh Police collared a key insurgent in Longding district on Wednesday evening. The suspect, identified as SS 2nd Lieutenant Wanglai Wangsa of the NSCN-K (Ang Mai) faction, went down in the Pangsau area. Officers seized a semi-automatic pistol, a magazine, and five rounds of ammunition from him.
Wangsa joined the militant group back in 2012. He was already a wanted man. Police confirmed he was tied to the 2022 murder of Attar Sharma in a case involving the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Arms Act. A police official stated, "We have arrested an active cadre of NSCN (K-Angmai) and registered Case No. 4/2026 under Sections 25(1A)/27 of the Arms Act read with Sections 10/13 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967. The case has been taken up for investigation."
This hit follows a separate operation in Tirap district. Troops recently captured Longsom Losu, another alleged NSCN-K cadre. They caught him carrying a pistol and 10 live rounds after receiving intel about his movements. Security forces are now ramping up pressure across eastern Arunachal Pradesh to squeeze out militant activity.
