Imphal: Security forces are crawling through Manipur’s Ukhrul district in a massive manhunt. They seek the militants who killed two Assam Rifles personnel during a convoy ambush on July 6. The strike in Nungshong Khong left Warrant Officer Balwant Singh and Havildar CM Singh dead.

A joint team of Assam Rifles, Border Security Force, and Manipur Police launched the operation Friday in the Nungshang area. They are combing forests, houses, and trails to grab the shooters and recover hidden weapons. The Assam Rifles stated on X that the two men "made the supreme sacrifice."

The search continues. Officials say they aim to restore order and catch those behind the bloodshed. Meanwhile, the NSCN (IM) denied any hand in the attack. The group claimed no link to the violence and reaffirmed its commitment to a ceasefire agreement with the central government.

Manipur remains a powder keg. Ethnic clashes between Meitei and Kuki-Zo groups have raged for three years. Over 260 people have died since the fighting started, leaving thousands displaced and the region on edge.
