Security Forces Clear NH-37 Supply Route as CoTU Ends Blockade

Imphal: Security forces moved more than 450 trucks loaded with food and fuel along National Highway 37 today. Three companies of the CRPF guarded the convoy from Keithelmanbi to Jiribam. The shipment included 73 oil tankers and 33 LPG carriers. Supplies are moving again.

The Committee on Tribal Unity pulled its blockade off the highways after two days of intense disruption. Protesters had clogged National Highway 2 in the Kangpokpi district, stopping almost all traffic. Only medical vehicles and ambulances escaped the shutdown. Shops and schools stayed locked while volunteers occupied key road sections.

The group launched the protest to challenge security sweeps in Kuki-Zo areas. They called the recent government tactics "selective and partisan" regarding their safety. Leaders also demanded justice for the deaths of three pastors and twelve other civilians caught in the ongoing regional violence.

CoTU ended the standoff after the Kangpokpi Superintendent of Police promised to take charge of local security. The organization agreed to pull back its own village volunteers under this new deal. Police also promised to protect trucks heading into vulnerable areas like Leimakhong and Bungpi. The group warned they remain ready to protest if these promises fall through.
