Security Forces Arrest Six Militants and Recover Arms Cache in Manipur Operations

Imphal: Security personnel in Manipur successfully apprehended six insurgent cadres from various banned militant organizations during a series of strategic operations conducted over the past two days. These actions are part of an ongoing effort by law enforcement to maintain stability and curb illegal militant activities across the state.

On May 18, central security forces intercepted three members of the proscribed People's Liberation Army near the border pillars between 77 and 79 in Tengnoupal district. The individuals taken into custody include Wangthoi Nahakpam alias Lingjel, 20, from Thoubal; Nanaoba Nandeibam alias Angou, 19, from Imphal East; and Malem Oinam alias Manithoiba, 20, from Bishnupur district.

In separate operations on May 17, security teams made further arrests in the Thoubal and Imphal West districts. Thangjam Dhamendra Singh, a cadre of the banned UNLF (Koireng) faction, was detained in the Yairipok Bazar area on allegations of involvement in arms trafficking. Authorities confiscated a 9 mm magazine and various personal electronics during the arrest. Additionally, two active cadres of the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup, identified as Sorokhaibam Priyochand Singh and Moirangthem Naobi Singh, were taken into custody from locations in the Imphal West district.
