Imphal: Security forces arrested six active members of banned insurgent groups during a two-day crackdown across Manipur on May 27 and 28. Officials report the suspects were involved in illegal activities, including extortion and the operation of proscribed organizations.
On May 28, authorities apprehended two Revolutionary People's Front/People's Liberation Army members, Taorem Manglemchandra Singh and Huirongbam Bembem Devi, in Imphal West. The pair allegedly targeted local clinics and pharmacies for extortion. Security forces seized three mobile phones, identification documents, and a vehicle during the arrest.
In separate operations that same day, Ngangom Bimol Singh of the RPF/PLA and Laishram Samananda Singh of the Kangleipak Communist Party (People's War Group) were taken into custody at their Imphal West residences. Both men were found with mobile phones and identification cards.
These arrests followed a May 27 operation in Imphal East, where personnel captured KCP (PWG) cadres Thokchom Tondonba Meitei and Ningthoujam Arunjit Meetei. During this search, officials recovered three HE hand grenades, seven detonators, an extortion demand letter, and additional personal items.
Authorities are currently investigating the suspects to determine their broader operational links and any involvement in other criminal acts. The seized items have been processed as evidence for ongoing legal proceedings.
