Rockslide Blocks Manipur Highway as Driver Escapes Unharmed

Imphal: A severe rockslide struck National Highway 102A in Manipur's Senapati district this week, creating dangerous conditions for local commuters. The slide occurred on the road connecting Phaibung Khullen and Vaisiichu, where persistent rainfall destabilized the hillside and sent a large volume of debris crashing onto the pavement.

A vehicle navigating the route was caught in the slide, but both the driver and his helper managed to evade harm. Reflecting on the close call, local accounts noted that the pair "narrowly escaped without injuries, avoiding what could have resulted in a major tragedy."

The highway serves as a primary transport artery for the surrounding region. Officials are currently preparing to assess the site to determine the scope of necessary repairs. The event has reignited regional concerns regarding the safety of hill roads during the monsoon season, as the highway remains a high-risk route for travelers dealing with unstable terrain and adverse weather.
