Imphal: A food convoy carrying medicine and supplies stalled along the Imphal-Tamenglong Road on Sunday. Security forces escorted 28 vehicles out of Kangpokpi. Protesters stopped them in Chawangkining and again in Thonglang Atongba. They used nail traps to shred tyres.
Women gathered at the site to block the path. Security teams faced a standoff that lasted until late night. They finally fired tear gas at 10:30 p.m. to clear the crowd. One traveler reported that stone-throwing and slingshots damaged civilian cars. The trip took 24 hours instead of the usual six.
The Committee on Tribal Unity issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the state and Centre. They want the highways open now. A CoTU leader stated, "uninterrupted access to food, healthcare and other necessities remains a humanitarian requirement."
Separately, blockades on National Highway-2 targeted Nepali drivers. Protesters claimed a vehicle labeled as a medical truck carried liquor. CoTU denied the claim. They called the incident a smear campaign against their relief efforts. The group is demanding an explanation for the false signage within 24 hours.
