Rising Dikari River Strands Villagers and Livestock in Assam

Guwahati: Relentless rain turned the Dikari River into a weapon on Sunday. Water surged, spilling over banks and swamping the Jonai region of Assam. Over 15 people are currently stuck on a river island known as Koraibari Char. They cannot escape. The current is too fast and the water keeps climbing.

About 100 cattle remain trapped on the island alongside the residents. The situation is grim. Floodwaters buried roads, homes, and farms across the area, forcing many families to flee to higher ground. Fear grips the region as the river continues to rise.

The local administration confirmed that rescue teams are being organized to reach those left behind. "The district administration has urged people residing in low-lying and vulnerable areas to remain alert as flood conditions continue to remain critical."

State Disaster Response Force teams are preparing to move in. For now, the marooned residents wait for help. Authorities keep a close watch on the rising tide while residents brace for further damage.
