Guwahati: Residents of Abhayapuri in Assam's Bongaigaon district are demanding answers from the Abhayapuri Municipal Board regarding several public bio-toilets that have remained locked and inaccessible for years. Despite the municipal board spending lakhs of rupees to construct these facilities across various locations, they have never been opened for public use.
Local citizens report that the structures were built approximately five to six years ago. The buildings currently lack any signage or project details, such as the total construction cost or the specific agency responsible for the work. Neglect has taken a toll on the sites, as overgrown vegetation and bushes now surround many of the structures.
The community has accused the municipal authorities of wasting taxpayer money and failing to provide functional public infrastructure. Locals have voiced their frustration over the situation, questioning the logic behind building facilities that never serve their intended purpose. The residents have formally demanded that the authorities either open the toilets immediately or provide a clear explanation for the prolonged closure, describing the situation as the result of the "irresponsible functioning of the municipal board."
To date, municipal officials have not addressed the allegations or provided a timeline for when the toilets might become operational.
