Imphal: Thirteen days after a coordinated attack by suspected Myanmar-based militants in the Kamjong district of Manipur, villagers remain in a state of deep anxiety as they await more robust security measures. The assault, which occurred during the early hours of May 7, targeted Tangkhul Naga villages including Z Choro, Wanglee, and Namlee. Residents reported that armed men crossed the border and launched an unprovoked offensive involving indiscriminate gunfire, property looting, and arson that destroyed nearly all 22 houses in Z Choro, though the local church was spared.
Displaced villagers expressed shock at the violence, noting that they had previously provided humanitarian aid to refugees from across the border. Many residents have since returned to their homes, driven by a determination to protect their ancestral lands from foreign encroachment despite the palpable threat. Local leadership, including the village head of Namlee, has alleged that the attackers were linked to the KNA-B, a claim that underscores the complexity of the ongoing regional instability.
