Guwahati: A melanistic black panther turned up at Manas National Park this week. The Chief Minister’s Office of Assam shared the footage on X on July 4. They labeled the big cat the Ghost Rider at Manas. It is a rare win for conservationists. These cats are known as ghosts of the forest because they are almost impossible to track.

Melanism causes the animal to develop an entirely black coat. This genetic variation makes the predators experts at staying hidden. The state government used the footage to brag about the park’s wild reputation. Manas is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It sits in a league of its own.

The official post stated: "The Ghost Rider at Manas!... where the elusive melanistic black panther quietly steals the show. A rare glimpse into the wild that reminds us why Manas remains one of India's most extraordinary forests."

The park houses plenty of iconic species. You can find Bengal tigers, one-horned rhinos, and elephants roaming the brush. State officials hope the viral clip brings more tourism to the region. They want to show the world that Assam is a serious stronghold for nature. The panther remains a top-tier attraction for anyone watching the woods.
