Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council Targets TB-Free Status by 2028

Guwahati: The Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC) has officially announced an ambitious goal to achieve tuberculosis-free status across its jurisdictions by 2028. This objective aims to surpass the national target of eliminating the disease from India by 2030. To kickstart this effort, an awareness program was held on Monday at the Bodosa Club in Shashtapur village, located within the 27 No. Boko Council Constituency. This event, aligned with the Prime Minister's Tuberculosis Free Campaign, gathered health officials, local leaders, and patients to promote medical adherence and community support.

During the event, health officials distributed essential nutritional packages containing rice, dal, mustard oil, and soybean to approximately 30 patients from the Boko TB Unit. RHAC executive member Sumit Rabha highlighted that this event was the first of its kind in the Boko constituency and confirmed that similar support programs are scheduled to expand to the Pantan area in Chaygaon. These initiatives follow previous successful distribution efforts carried out in Bandapara.

Dr. Dhruba Baruah, Sub-Divisional Medical and Health Officer of Boko BPHC, emphasized that the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP) continues to provide free medications. Recent health data indicates that 230 cases were recorded in 2025, with 197 patients successfully cured that same year. So far in 2026, 79 new cases have been registered, and 112 individuals are currently receiving DOTS treatment. Officials clarified that despite any unfounded rumors regarding administrative oversight, the council and local health units remain fully committed to transparent and effective healthcare delivery.

RHAC health executive member Prabodh Kalita noted that the 2028 deadline reflects the council's firm commitment to accelerating public health interventions. In addition to tuberculosis efforts, officials expressed concerns regarding rising cancer rates in the Boko region and affirmed that nationwide screening initiatives are underway to facilitate early detection and treatment. The council intends to maintain this momentum through continuous awareness campaigns and sustained support for vulnerable populations.
