Protesters Call for Massive PoK Rallies on July 23

Shillong: The Joint Awami Action Committee plans to keep the pressure on in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. They are calling for a massive turnout on July 23 to force the government into action. The group says this date is vital for their movement. They expect residents to show up in full force across the region.

Sardar Umar Nazir Kashmiri issued the call to action via social media. He asked citizens to pray for martyrs and join sit-ins at their nearest stations. The committee remains firm on its core demands. They refuse to bend on basic points during any negotiations. The group stated, "We demand implementation of our recognised demands — with patience, wisdom, unity and solidarity, and steadfastness, we will succeed in our struggle — no compromise of any kind will be made on the basic points in negotiations."

The region has seen heavy unrest that claimed more than 30 lives. Last week, the committee paused a long march to Muzaffarabad to give authorities one final chance. That deal came after talks involving Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir and committee leaders. The committee warned that if the government fails to act, the march to Muzaffarabad will restart this week. Ongoing sit-ins will continue in the meantime. People from the Mirpur, Muzaffarabad, and Poonch divisions have all been urged to participate in the upcoming demonstrations.
