Kohima: A Project Monitoring Group meeting was convened at the Deputy Commissioner office in Kohima to evaluate the current status of National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited projects spanning the Kohima and Dimapur corridor. Deputy Commissioner B. Henok Buchem chaired the session, which included participation from district administrators, project contractors, consultants, and various key stakeholders.
Technical updates provided by the corporation revealed varying stages of completion for the four-lane highway initiative. Package-One currently holds 26 percent physical progress, while Package-Two has reached 43 percent. Notably, Package-Three is nearing completion at 90 percent and is projected to be fully operational for public traffic by July of this year.
The discussion also addressed long-term infrastructure goals, specifically regarding ongoing tunnel construction. While multiple tunnels are in development, one major project is slated for completion by December 2026. Representatives further analyzed urgent operational challenges, including the management of sinking zones, the mitigation of landslide risks along the Kohima and Mao Road, and necessary land acquisition procedures to address accident-prone sections of the route.
