Gangtok: President Droupadi Murmu stated that the advancement of India relies heavily on the progress of the North Eastern region. Speaking at the 7th convocation ceremony of Sikkim University in Gangtok on Wednesday, she urged students to embrace a collective spirit to contribute to the nation's future.
During her address, the President highlighted the unique role of Sikkim University in safeguarding the local culture, language, and environment. She commended the state for achieving full literacy and praised its 2016 milestone as the country's first fully organic state. According to Murmu, Sikkim serves as a model for how economic development and environmental conservation can exist in harmony.
The President described education as a primary tool for achieving self-reliance and encouraged graduates to focus their skills on improving the nation. Before attending the ceremony, she officially inaugurated the Aama Didi Bahini Bus Sewa transport initiative in the capital.
