Imphal: The People’s Progressive Alliance Manipur slammed the Committee on Tribal Unity today. The group rejected a recent 48-hour ultimatum demanding the removal of checkpoints on highways in Kangpokpi district. PPAM Convenor MC Meetei called the demand selective and biased.

Meetei pointed to the ongoing restrictions facing Meitei civilians on routes through Kuki-dominated areas. These roadblocks have persisted since ethnic violence erupted in May 2023. Meetei argued that rights must apply to everyone equally. He noted, "appeals for human rights and access to public infrastructure, including National Highways, lose credibility if they are championed only for one section of society while similar concerns affecting others are ignored."

The alliance wants the State and Central governments to enforce the law without picking favorites. They insist that lasting peace depends on fair treatment. Constitutional protections must reach every citizen in Manipur regardless of their background.
