Police Seize Nearly 400 Litres of Suspected Illegal Thinner in Assam

Guwahati: Police in Makum detained a man and seized 387 litres of suspected illegal thinner during a security operation on May 30. Officers intercepted a Maruti Eeco van near the Betjan Bypass Chariali after receiving intelligence about the shipment.

The driver, identified as Surajit Gogoi from Matapung village in Barekuri, was apprehended at the scene. Authorities discovered 15 cartons of the chemical substance packed inside the vehicle. Initial investigations suggest the contraband was being moved from Barekuri toward Arunachal Pradesh.

Barekuri Police led the operation with support from local Makum officers to track down the van. The vehicle, the cargo, and the suspect were transported to the Barekuri Police Station. Officials are now working to identify the origin of the shipment and determine its intended purpose as the investigation continues.
