Imphal: Security forces hauled in 238.6 kilograms of suspected ganja during a weekend crackdown in Imphal East. The massive bust followed a coordinated sweep by the Anti-Narcotic Task Force, local police, the CRPF, and the group Youth Against Drugs and Alcohol Manipur.
Officers set up a blockade near the Poloi Football Turf after getting a tip. A Mahindra Bolero pickup tried to dodge the checkpoint, but crews stopped the driver, Mataimei W. Shimray. They found 16 packets of drugs weighing 209.7 kilograms hidden inside the truck. Police said the operation was a success because they acted on "specific intelligence inputs."
Shimray cracked under pressure. He gave up his associates, leading the team to a drop-off point where they nabbed 19-year-olds Ngangbam Dinesh and Phuritshabam Yaiphaba Meitei. The pair arrived on a motorcycle to finish the hand-off.
The investigation didn't stop there. Raids on a home in Pungdongbam Makha Leikai turned up another 28.9 kilograms of the stash. Agents cuffed the homeowner, 42-year-old Oinam Abung Meetei, at the scene. All four suspects, the drugs, and both vehicles are now in the hands of the Lamlai Police Station as investigators work to map out the trafficking ring.
