Shillong: A Shillong man is on the run. He faces allegations of raping a minor and sexually exploiting multiple women. The suspect vanished after social media posts detailing his abuse went viral, sparking massive public anger.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem confirmed an FIR was filed at Laitumkhrah Police Station on July 7. Cops initially tracked him toward Mizoram but later realized he had shifted course. "If he had gone home for a holiday, he should have informed. But no one knows his whereabouts," Syiem said.
The Meghalaya State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has launched its own probe. Chairperson Agatha K. Sangma confirmed they are supporting police efforts to identify more victims. Only one woman has stepped forward so far. Reports claim the accused threatened women with leaked private videos and left one victim pregnant.
The Young Mizo Association is assisting in the hunt. President Ricky Renthlei confirmed they tracked the suspect moving toward Aizawl before he disappeared. The group wants the law to take its course. Police are currently scouting all leads to bring the man into custody.
