Police hunt for teacher following student suicide in Assam

Guwahati: A teacher remains on the run after being accused of pushing a student to suicide. Aini Sonowal, a Class IX student in Moran, took her own life at home on June 16. Her family claims relentless mental harassment by the teacher and a peer drove her to the act.

The trouble started when a classmate created a fake Instagram account using the teacher's photo to post crude comments. The family says the teacher later hauled Aini into school, shamed her, and forced her to post a humiliating WhatsApp status from her father's phone. This public embarrassment shattered the teenager.

The school headmaster confirmed the teacher is missing. He stated the staffer took a three-day leave but has failed to return for six days. Phone calls go straight to voicemail. The school headmaster noted the teacher has remained absent from the school without permission for the past six days. The local community is reeling from the tragedy.

One colleague urged the suspect to stop hiding. He said, "A teacher at the school appealed to the accused to come forward and cooperate with the investigation instead of remaining in hiding." Bamunbari police continue to probe the family's formal complaint.
