Police Detain Man After Student Found Dead at Sivasagar Homestay

Guwahati: A 22-year-old college student died at a Sivasagar homestay on June 30. Krishna Gogoi, a second-semester student at Sivasagar Girls College, checked into the Holiday Homestay near Joysagar with a local man around 11 am. Three hours later, her companion alerted the staff that she was found hanging inside their room.

Police arrived at the site shortly after the report. They recovered the body and sent it for a post-mortem to determine the cause of death. Officers identified the man as Abinash Konwar, a resident of Betbari No. 2 Konwar Gaon. Police detained Konwar for questioning as the investigation into the circumstances continues.

The facility is owned by Ranjan and Benu. Local authorities are looking into all potential leads. The victim was the daughter of Bijit Gogoi from Betbari Bakchu Kheluwa. Investigators stated, "The exact circumstances leading to the student's death are yet to be established."
