Agartala: Agartala police used water cannons and a baton charge to disperse Youth Congress workers on Monday after protesters attempted to reach the Chief Minister's official residence. The rally, which saw hundreds of participants, was organized to demand the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan following reports of irregularities in the NEET examination. Demonstrators also raised concerns regarding unemployment, corruption, and rising prices.

Authorities set up barricades near IGM Hospital to block the march, but protesters pushed forward toward the high-security zone. Security forces, including the CRPF and local police, intervened to prevent the group from breaching the protected area. As tensions rose, police deployed water cannons and later engaged in a baton charge to clear the scene.

Tripura Pradesh Youth Congress president Neel Kamal Saha condemned the response, stating, "Several protesters sustained injuries during the incident." Eyewitnesses reported seeing multiple people bleeding at the site before receiving medical aid. Saha further noted the severity of the confrontation, adding, "Some of our workers sustained severe injuries. Two of them suffered head injuries due to an alleged lathi charge."

Police officials defended the measures as necessary to protect the Chief Minister's residence and maintain public order. Following the clashes, authorities detained more than 50 activists and brought the situation under control.
