Guwahati: Margherita and Ledo police arrested a suspected drug peddler during a joint anti-narcotics operation in Assam's Tinsukia district on May 30. Officers apprehended the suspect, identified as Raju Sonar from No. 2 Lajum village, in the Kalibari area of Ledo.
Police launched the raid after receiving a confidential tip regarding local drug trafficking. Authorities reported that Sonar was intercepted while returning from the Ledo-Tikok area. Although one other individual managed to escape the scene when police arrived, officers successfully detained Sonar.
During the search, police discovered 17 sachets containing approximately 6.71 grams of suspected narcotics. In addition to the drugs, investigators seized a Pulsar motorcycle and a scooter in connection with the case. The suspect remains in custody for further questioning.
Law enforcement officials have launched a broader investigation to identify the source of the narcotics and locate the individual who fled. This arrest is part of a continuing crackdown on drug distribution networks throughout the Margherita subdivision.
