Phek Police Arrest Driver Following Hit-and-Run Incident

Kohima: Phek Police have taken the alleged driver into custody following a hit-and-run incident that left two women injured in Phek town on June 13. Authorities responded to reports of the collision at Bible Hill Colony around 6:30 pm, where a blue Maruti Celerio had struck the pedestrians before fleeing the scene.

The two victims were transported to the District Civil Hospital in Phek. Medical officials reported that both women remain in stable condition, noting that one of the injured pedestrians is pregnant. Investigators determined the vehicle was traveling on the wrong side of the road when it hit the women.

The suspect abandoned the car near a garage in Zion Colony before attempting to evade capture. A special operations team, working alongside the PTCSU, eventually located and apprehended the individual. Phek Police have seized the vehicle and registered a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act.

Police officials issued a stern reminder regarding the legal obligations of motorists involved in accidents. They stated, "Section 134 read with Section 187 of the Motor Vehicles Act makes it a legal duty for drivers involved in accidents to assist the injured and report the incident to the police." The department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
