Phek CWC warns against revealing victim identity in sexual abuse case

Kohima: The Child Welfare Committee in Phek issued an urgent warning to the public and media today. Stop sharing details that identify a child involved in a recent sexual assault. Social media posts, news reports, and casual gossip are putting the victim at risk.

The POCSO Act of 2012 makes it a crime to reveal a victim's identity. This includes names, school details, family background, and locations. Do not share photos or videos related to this case. Officials say even indirect references could destroy the child's right to privacy and future safety.

Phek police registered the assault case on July 1. They moved fast, forming a special team and arresting the suspect the same day. The accused now sits in judicial custody while the victim receives professional care.

The committee appreciates the public's drive for justice. However, they insist that support must not compromise the law. "Let us stand together for justice while safeguarding the privacy and best interests of every child," the Committee stated. Keep the investigation quiet and let the courts do their work.
