Kohima: Health officials in Peren and Wokha met on June 23 to audit immunization progress and prep for upcoming national drives. Deputy Commissioner Hiazu Meru led the session in Peren. They focused on tracking state and district markers to fight measles, rubella, and childhood diarrhoea.
R. Khartu Monsang of the UNDP reported an 80 percent success rate for measles rubella and routine shots. Dr. Valentina Neikha pushed for a multi-agency effort to stop child deaths. She emphasized high coverage of zinc and ORS treatments for sick children. The DC told local departments to trigger village-level involvement immediately.
Wokha officials focused on the National Immunization Day Pulse Polio campaign set for June 28 through June 30, 2026. District Programme Officer Thungchanbeni Patton set a clear goal: reach 80 percent of children on day one. Teams will then move door to door to finish the job. Wokha will run 193 vaccination booths across the district. These sites include mobile teams in Wokha and Bhandari towns plus five separate transit points. Deputy Commissioner K. Mhathung Tsanglao urged the public to get involved, stating: "The DC appealed to communities and line departments to extend full support for the success of the drive."
