Imphal: The National Socialist Council of Nagalim-Isak-Muivah pushed back hard against the Ministry of Home Affairs today. Government officials accused the group of destroying poppy fields and sparking deadly gunfire. The outfit says these claims are totally baseless.

They denied being a terrorist group or a banned organization under Indian law. The outfit slammed the government for ignoring facts. "By casually attributing a grave and politically sensitive incident to the NSCN, the Government of India has once again chosen presumption over proof and narrative over evidence," the group stated. They believe the government is trying to sway public opinion before a real investigation begins.

The group demands the Centre follow the 2002 Milan Memorandum of Understanding. They call the government order a reckless attempt to fake guilt. Officials have yet to provide concrete evidence to back these specific accusations.

Security forces captured a different insurgent while the dispute continued. Police grabbed 24-year-old Siro Wungta near the Imphal bus terminal. The suspect is a self-styled Lance Corporal for the Manipur Naga People's Front. He comes from Tarong village in the Kamjong district. Police held him after a routine security sweep on Wednesday.
