Imphal: The National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isak-Muivah) denied any role in the deadly ambush on an Assam Rifles convoy in Manipur. Two soldiers died. The attack occurred in the Nungshang Khong area of the Ukhrul district.
Assam Rifles lost Warrant Officer Balwant Singh and Havildar Chandra Mohan Singh during the fight. Several others suffered injuries. Director General Vikas Lakhera paid tribute to the fallen men after the tragedy.
The outfit blamed a breakaway faction known as the Eastern Flank for the violence. In a Tuesday statement, the group distanced itself from the shooters. It stated it was "neither involved in nor had any knowledge" of the incident.
The organization claims it still honors the ceasefire agreement with the Centre. It aims to protect the Indo-Naga peace process from further trouble. They promised never to take actions that could derail ongoing political negotiations.
Security forces are currently combing the region for the attackers. The Manipur government promised to hunt down those responsible. The NSCN-IM urged all sides to keep cool and stop the cycle of violence.
