Kohima: The United Sangtam Region of NSCN/GPRN has issued a strong condemnation following the alleged rape of an 82-year-old woman on June 17. The suspect, Heluikie Nsanglung, who also goes by the name Amos, is an Armed Branch Constable serving with the DEF Kiphire.
In an official statement, the organization labeled the act as inhumane and a serious affront to human dignity. The group emphasized that no person, regardless of their professional position or official authority, should be considered above the law. They stated the incident was “inhumane” and a grave violation of human dignity.
The organization is calling for a rapid and impartial investigation into the matter to ensure the accused faces the strictest possible legal consequences. Their note highlights a pressing need for institutional accountability and reforms to prevent the abuse of power by those tasked with protecting the public.
Extending solidarity to the victim and her family, the regional body maintained that violence against vulnerable members of society has no place in a civilized community. They have urged local authorities to act immediately to safeguard the well-being of women and deliver justice.
