Guwahati: The Northeast Frontier Railway has achieved significant maintenance milestones at its Carriage and Wagon Workshop in New Bongaigaon, Assam. These improvements focus on modernizing infrastructure to bolster passenger safety and operational reliability across the region.
A primary advancement involves the launch of Mid-Life Rehabilitation for Linke-Hofmann-Busch coaches. This program aims to extend the service life of modern rolling stock while enhancing passenger comfort. The first coach undergoing this process is nearing completion and will enter service shortly.
The workshop also commissioned a new load testing facility for bogies. This addition allows technicians to verify critical parameters under pressure before dispatching equipment, ensuring that all overhauled bogies meet stringent quality and safety standards.
To further improve maintenance efficiency, the facility has integrated a mechanized shot blasting machine for bogie frames and bolsters. This technology provides a superior surface finish and streamlines maintenance workflows. Together, these investments demonstrate the commitment of the Northeast Frontier Railway to integrating advanced technical practices into its daily operations.
