Guwahati: Northeast Frontier Railway has deployed over 200 workers to clear tracks in Upper Assam. Severe flooding from the Dikhow River hit the Tinsukia Division. The water overtopped tracks at Simaluguri station, the yard, and the railway colony. Tracks are damaged. Engineering teams are working round the clock to fix the mess.
Operations ground to a halt between Simaluguri and Namti Ali, and Simaluguri and Selenghat. Crews focus on the Selenghat to Amguri section while monitoring the Sivasagar Town to Simaluguri line. Officials want tracks open fast.
Disruptions forced major schedule changes for long-distance trains from July 22 to July 27. Services like the Dibrugarh to New Delhi Rajdhani Express, New Tinsukia to SMVT Bengaluru Vivek Express, Avadh Assam Express, Kamrup Express, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express, Kanyakumari Vivek Express, and Rajendra Nagar Express were diverted via the Rangiya to Ranapara to North Lakhimpur route. Similar diversions hit trains heading toward Dibrugarh.
The Nagaland Express faces short-termination at Mariani through July 27. Numerous local services, including the Jorhat Town to Tinsukia Passenger, Tinsukia to Lumding DEMU, and various intercity expresses between Guwahati, Ledo, and Rangiya, are cancelled. NFR stated, "Passenger safety remains its top priority and assured that every effort is being made to complete the restoration work efficiently while ensuring safe train operations."
Travelers should check status updates before heading to stations. NFR thanked passengers for their patience during this flood crisis.
