Shillong: Nongkseh grabbed a 1-0 win over Mylliem at the SSA Stadium. The result gave the Upper Shillong club a perfect start to their Shillong Premier League season. It was a gritty fight. Aibiangmame Nongneng buried the winning goal in the 45+5th minute. He scored from close range after a Mylliem defender fumbled a clearance, sending the ball off the crossbar and right to him.
Mylliem played a defensive game early on. They relied on Remark Kharmalki and new recruit Kevizakie Ciesotsu to spark counter-attacks, but they failed to find the net. Referee G Marwein controlled a rough match. He issued a flurry of bookings before sending one player from each team off the pitch. Mylliem midfielder Shaibor Nongrum earned a second yellow card in the second half. Soon after, Nongkseh defender Arlangky Nongsiej joined him in the locker room after his own second booking.
Nongkseh kept the pressure on despite being down to 10 men. Goalkeeper Rihoklang Khongjoh made key stops against Hardy Cliff Nongbri and Sheen Sohktung. Guidle Syiemlieh, the Nongkseh goalkeeper, denied Istarbor Marngar to keep the clean sheet. Aenam Jyrwa nearly added a second goal for Nongkseh, but his chip hit the woodwork.
League play moves to Wednesday. Rangdajied United faces Meghalaya Police at 6.30pm. This game signals the return of Meghalaya Police to top-flight play after their 2018 relegation. They reached this level as First Division runners-up. Rangdajied United hopes to improve on their fifth-place finish from last season.
