Shillong: NITI Aayog member Dr. Joram Aniya scoured the Sports Authority of India training centre at NEHU on Thursday. She spent two hours evaluating the site ahead of next year's National Games. The city must get ready. She checked tracks and fields alongside training setups for football, archery, karate, and judo. She also poked around the boxing gym and sepak takraw areas.

Dr. Aniya brought a team for the walkthrough. Director of Sports and Youth Affairs Alertson Nongbri and Deputy Director P.B. War Nongbri joined her, along with various coaches and SAI officials. She held private talks with young athletes during the visit to gauge their needs. Local training works.

The official wants more growth for regional talent. She told reporters she expects high standards from the city's future performance. "Shillong is doing very well in sports, and I would like to see it do much better," she said. The inspection serves to identify exactly where the government needs to spend money on facility upgrades. As she noted, "The purpose of my visit is to inspect the facilities and infrastructure at the SAI Centre at NEHU. I will also be assessing what needs to be upgraded at the centre."
