Guwahati: NHPC Limited says the Subansiri River is flowing at natural levels. The state-run energy giant confirmed on Monday that all incoming water at the Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project is moving through the reservoir without disruption. Workers kept three spillway gates cracked open to maintain the flow.
Reservoir data shows a peak morning inflow of 5,200 cumecs. That number dropped to 4,200 cumecs by evening. Project officials are running three of the four available power units. These machines are currently generating 750 MW of electricity for the grid.
The river handles 7,000 cumecs safely. Any spike beyond that threshold triggers flood mitigation protocols. "The project would release only that volume downstream while storing the excess water in the reservoir to help moderate flood flows," the company stated. Once finished, the plant will manage surges up to 12,400 cumecs over a full day. NHPC claims the facility has caused zero flooding in downstream areas since power generation began.
