Guwahati: A major irrigation project was officially launched on May 20 at Rajapara in Assam's Kamrup district. Located along the Singua River in the Boko constituency, the initiative is the only one in Assam selected among 25 pilot programs launched by the Central Government across India to enhance farming productivity.

Managed by the state Irrigation Department, the project utilizes a modern pipeline network to supply water directly to local farms. This infrastructure aims to improve agricultural efficiency by providing reliable irrigation to approximately 11,000 bighas of land. The scheme traces its conceptual origins back to 1969, though this current phase represents a significant step toward modernizing the area's cultivation capabilities.

The project, known as the Singua FIS Cluster Phase-I, operates with an approved investment of Rs 34.84 crore. Local officials including MLA Raju Mesh emphasized that the development will provide substantial long-term benefits to the regional farming community. The inauguration event was attended by senior figures from the Irrigation Department, the Ministry of Jal Shakti, and district administration representatives to mark the commencement of the work.
