Shillong: Meghalaya’s rich lepidopteran diversity takes center stage on June 1 when Governor CH Vijayashankar unveils the new publication, Butterflies of Meghalaya, at Lok Bhavan. This book provides a detailed look at 698 butterfly species found throughout the state.
Authors Sanjay Sondhi and Krushnamegh Kunte compiled the work following years of extensive research and fieldwork. The project was supervised by HC Chaudhary, an Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Meghalaya. It includes in-depth records, vivid photography, and scientific research aimed at students, conservationists, and nature lovers.
Officials describe the book as a landmark achievement in documenting the region's natural heritage. By highlighting the state's unique fauna, the publication serves as a key resource for those interested in environmental protection. The Governor’s Secretariat noted that the project reflects a broader institutional commitment to sustainable conservation and increasing ecological awareness across the state.
