Kohima: Dr. Lalit K. Bhanot released a new coffee table book on September 21 at the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) headquarters in New Delhi. The publication chronicles the federation's Annual General Meeting held in Kohima, Nagaland, in June 2026. This gathering marked the first time a national sports federation hosted its annual meeting in the state.
Bhanot, president of the South Asian Athletics Federation, praised the organizers. He specifically commended Nagaland Athletics and advisor Abu Metha for their work. "The best AFI AGM in a meticulous manner," Bhanot said. He also thanked Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio for the government's support during the event.
Abu Metha, who serves as the advisor to the Chief Minister and vice president of the AFI, noted the importance of the event. He believes it proves Nagaland can handle large-scale national assignments. "The AGM was a historic occasion for Nagaland as it was the first time that our State hosted the Annual General Meeting of a national sports federation. We continue to set new benchmarks and push the envelope. Nagaland is capable of taking on bigger responsibilities, and we will continue to raise the bar, break new ground and punch above our weight," Metha stated.
The meeting also resulted in the signing of the Kohima Declaration. Officials expect this document to guide the development and modernization of athletics across India. The book serves as a permanent record of these proceedings and the growing role of Nagaland in the national sports community.
