Kohima: The North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) signed a deal with Vitamin Angels on Saturday to bolster community health. The partnership kicks off in Dimapur, Niuland, and Chümoukedima. It provides hands-on fieldwork for Master of Social Work students. They learn in the trenches.
Dr. Khelito Zhimomi, State Programme Officer for the National Health Mission (NHM), served as the chief guest at the BAM Hall launch. She lauded the move. She said, "Improving community health requires strong institutional partnerships and appreciated the collaboration for preparing future social work professionals through direct engagement with communities." The initiative supports the state's work in maternal and child health.
Four students will start internships under Mission 9 by 5. This project aims to hike vitamin A coverage in the three target districts. Other attendees included NHM Chümoukedima Block Programme Manager Senti Jamir and ProRural Director Paul Lokho, along with project coordinators Imliakum Imsong and Tolivi N Sumi.
NEISSR Principal Dr. Fr. C. P. Anto emphasized that social work needs real-world application. The institute remains focused on sustainable development. Vitamin Angels, a US-based nonprofit active in over 65 countries, has worked in Nagaland since 2011. Alice Kamei, the state project manager for the group, noted that these internships help students face complex social challenges. The event was chaired by student Atheli G Awomi, with Assistant Professor Sebastian Kamsuan delivering the final vote of thanks.
