Kohima: The North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Vitamin Angels to enhance community health and provide fieldwork for Master of Social Work students. The collaboration launched at the institute BAM Hall to support public health initiatives in Dimapur, Niuland, and Chümoukedima.
Four MSW students will start internships under Mission 9 by 5. This joint NHM Nagaland and Vitamin Angels project aims to boost vitamin A coverage. The program connects academic study with professional practice. It allows students to serve vulnerable communities directly.
Dr. Khelito Zhimomi, State Programme Officer for RMNCAH+N at the National Health Mission, attended as the chief guest. She lauded the effort, noting that "improving community health requires strong institutional partnerships." She emphasized that the program supports ongoing state efforts to strengthen maternal and child health services.
NEISSR Principal Dr. Fr. C. P. Anto stated the partnership reflects a commitment to experiential learning. He argued that social work education must extend beyond the classroom. Vitamin Angels State Project Manager Alice Kamei said the group remains dedicated to working with local communities and the NHM to improve nutrition. The US-based non-profit has operated in Nagaland since 2011.
Other attendees included NHM Chümoukedima Block Programme Manager Senti Jamir, ProRural Director Paul Lokho, and ProRural Project Coordinators Imliakum Imsong and Tolivi N Sumi. MSW student Atheli G Awomi chaired the event. Assistant Professor Sebastian Kamsuan provided the vote of thanks, citing hopes for deeper institutional ties.
