Kohima: Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio arrived at Nagaland House on Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Road this Sunday. He came to see the damage firsthand after a blaze tore through the facility. The Chief Minister brought his top brass along for the visit. Deputy Chief Ministers TR Zeliang and Y Patton joined him alongside Advisor Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome and senior officials.
The fire started Saturday morning. It broke out in Room 2 of the main guest house. Flames erupted near a split air-conditioning unit mounted above a living room sofa. The fire stayed contained to that room. Staff moved quickly to stop the blaze before firefighters arrived to finish the job.
Three guests were inside when the smoke started. They all got out safely. Nobody suffered an injury during the incident. Resident Commissioner Abhijit Sinha and Joint Resident Commissioner Sharon Longchari walked the high-level team through the site and explained the current restoration plans.
Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton took to social media to discuss the incident and the recovery efforts. "I appreciate the prompt action of the fire and emergency services in containing the blaze and ensuring safety," Patton said. The government is now finalizing a full assessment of the room.
