Itanagar: Nearly 250 NCC cadets finished a ten-day training camp in Itanagar last week. They survived the monsoon. The Combined Annual Training Camp, also known as CATC-68, ran from June 24 to July 3 at Rajiv Gandhi Government Polytechnic College.
Rain wrecked the roads. Cadets from across Arunachal Pradesh took dangerous detours to reach the site. They pushed through the mud to make it on time. The 1 Arunachal Pradesh Battalion NCC managed the event, relying on ten military staffers and five officers to drill the students in fieldcraft, weapon handling, and physical fitness.
Brigadier Mayank Vaid stopped by to check on the progress. He praised the recruits for their grit. He told the group, "He commended them for their determination and commitment despite the challenging weather conditions."
Instructors from the State Disaster Management Authority also stepped in. They ran the Yuva Aapda Mitra Scheme to teach emergency response skills. Cadets practiced flood relief and earthquake rescue tactics. The camp ended with Survival and Fun days, where the group bonded over regional food and team challenges.
