Agartala: The Nationalist Citizen Party of India (NCPI), a small political organization established in 2022, continues to operate with a limited footprint across West Bengal and Tripura. Headquartered in Howrah, West Bengal, the party attempted to enter the electoral arena by fielding four candidates during the 2023 Tripura Assembly elections.

These candidates included Jahangir Ali in the Kailashahar constituency, Barjeda Tripura in Chawmanu, Krishna Kumar Debbarma in Ambassa, and Rita Shil Halam in the Karamchara constituency. Jahangir Ali noted that the party relies on a convener to manage its affairs in the region. Regarding the internal structure in the state, Ali said, "We have no president here in Tripura it. But we have a convener who is looking after the party, and his name is Shantanu Dey."

Reports recently surfaced suggesting that a faction of the Trinamool Congress might merge with the NCPI, though leadership has not verified these claims. Ali stated that he has heard these reports, but confirmed that the matter is not yet clear. Beyond its four election candidates, the party currently maintains very few active members in Tripura.

Political analysts characterize the NCPI as a marginal entity lacking the core features of a viable political organization. Experts point to the absence of a defined leadership structure, a robust grassroots base, and an extensive network as evidence of its limited reach. The party has seen little growth or activity since its inception, with observers noting its negligible impact on the regional political landscape.
