National Commission for Scheduled Tribes Probes Abduction of Naga Civilians in Manipur

Imphal: The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes has officially registered a complaint regarding the reported abduction and hostage-taking of Naga tribal civilians in Manipur. The commission recorded the matter on June 2, 2026, under file number NCST/ATY-4170/MN/19/2026-RO-SHLNG/RU-II.

Social activist Asem Roshan Singh filed the petition requesting federal intervention under Article 338A of the Constitution of India. The complaint highlights concerns over the safety of innocent civilians caught in the ongoing violence within the state.

Singh has urged the commission to launch an independent inquiry to determine the status of the missing individuals. The petition calls for the identification of those responsible for the unlawful detentions and asks the commission to ensure the safety and legal protection of vulnerable tribal communities affected by the regional instability.
